3 New Hotel Openings: Chicago’s Godfrey, New York’s Crowne Plaza JFK Airport and Glasgow’s easyHotel
Chicago’s The Godfrey, New York City’s Crowne Plaza JFK Airport and Glasgow’s easyHotel highlight the world’s recent hotel openings.
Chicago, Illinois: The Godfrey
The 221-room boutique — at this point, an adjective that describes style not size — Godfrey had its long-awaited opening in River North on Feb. 1. Inside the 16-story building with a “Cubist-influenced facade” there’s an urban rooftop lounge with views of the Windy City’s skyline. WiFi is included with your stay, so no excuse not to post a few #selfie’s using the view as a backdrop. Rooms start at $99 a night.
New York City: Crowne Plaza JFK Airport
The good news: this new 330-room hotel is in Jamaica. The bad news: it’s Jamaica Queens. So when the Crowne Plaza JFK Airport markets itself as a “full-service business and leisure hotel,” realize it’s full-service because other there ain’t much else around. The 24/7 fitness center does include a Zen and yoga room through. Rates start at, does it even matter? You’re likely expensing your stay here.
Glasgow, Scotland: easyHotel
There’s a time and place for hotel rooms that require an additional fee to be cleaned, and apparently it’s now in Glasgow. A previous incarnation of this budget chain owned by a franchisee closed last year, but easyHotel (and easyJet) founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou re-opened it in mid January. Located on Hill Street, the 125-room hotel is in Glasgow’s city center. So while it doesn’t have a restaurant or bar of its own, it’s just a short walk to many of them — and only a slightly slower stumble home. Rates start at £15 (around $25).
